Metadata: Intertidal Monitoring of the Biotope SLR.FserX.T in Carmarthen Bay and Estuaries Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) 2004
Abstract:
The Habitats Directive establishes that the management of Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) should aim to achieve the favourable conservation status of habitat and species features listed within its Annex I and Annex II. For SACs in Wales, the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) is therefore required to report on a regular basis on whether features are in favourable conservation status. SLR.FserX.T is a tide-swept algal biotope typically found on sheltered lower shore boulder, cobble and pebbles on muddy sediments that are subject to enhanced tidal water movement. It is considered nationally uncommon. This dataset contains the presence/absence of the biotope SLR.FserX.T (Fucus serratus with sponges, ascidians and red seaweeds on tide-swept eulittoral mixed substrata). The purpose of this data capture was to determine the presence/absence of SLR.FserX.T biotope previously identified at Whiteford Point during a CCW Phase 1 survey and to ascertain the condition of the habitat.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Previously mapped area was located and a search for the biotope was made at low water by looking for characteristic species. A transect was walked along the tide line at low water within the area with checks made every 10 to 20m along the mapped transect. Mapping was carried out using portable dGPS. The tide-swept algal biotope SLR.FserX.T had previously been identified by CCW during a Phase 1 survey of Whiteford Point. |
