Metadata: Development and Field Trials of a Drop-Down Video System (2003)
Abstract:
Envision Mapping was contracted by the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) to develop a purpose built drop-down video system suitable for marine monitoring work. Detailed specifications were prepared and the system was manufactured by C-Technics, a specialist underwater video systems manufacturer. The system was trialled during the manufacturing process and modifications made prior to the system being completed. Upon completion the system was commissioned at three locations in Wales. This tested the system in field conditions for both operational suitability and also enabled the system to be modified to best suit the requirements of CCW.

| Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 8654 |
| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | Development and Field Trials of a Drop-Down Video System (2003) |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | NRW_DS110096 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | 4f4c4942-4343-5764-6473-313130303936 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2003-10-01 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2003-10-05 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The system was deployed in various sea states over a 5 day period, in Tremadog Bay, close to St Tudwal’s Islands, the Menai Strait and Milford Haven. The system was deployed from the RIB Aplysia and the RV Skalmey. The methods used were similar to the procedural and operational guidelines presented in the report, but various configuration of camera position, buoyancy and towing techniques were tried. The equipment and deployment techniques were refined and adjusted to produce the optimal configuration and operational techniques for various conditions and these methods are presented in the procedural and operational guidelines. Recommendations are made for methods of data collection, the effects of weather conditions, sea state and tides on the deployment of the system. Because the system is to be used on various vessels, examples of mobilisation configurations are presented. |
