Metadata: Marine Habitat Vulnerability Assessment of the Welsh Coast - Phase 1
Abstract:
The coastline of Wales supports a wide variety of important marine ecological systems, habitats and species. A range of human activities, such as coastal developments and defences can result in the loss of these important coastal and marine habitats. These human activities coupled with future climate change, in particular sea level rise, could have significant impacts upon the natural coastal and marine environments. Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) require a way to model the vulnerability of coastal habitats to these impacts. The following metadata describes phase 1 of this project. The purpose of this data capture was to produce a marine habitat vulnerability assessment of the Welsh Coast to consider those habitats/biotopes that are vulnerable to coastal squeeze as a result of coastal management and other natural constraints for the coast of Wales.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Datasets used in the modelling process include CCW habitat maps (Phase 1 Intertidal and Habmap), previous sensitivity assessments carried out by MarLIN, and details of those habitats listed in Section 42. Other datasets used include Shoreline Management Plant (SMP) Policy Units, information about erosion and sea level rise rates, functional behaviour and character of the coast, existing coastal management and protection amongst others. |
| Additional information | This describes relevant references to the data e.g. reports, articles, websites plus other useful information not captured elsewhere. | Metadata for each data layer is available with the archived data. |
