Metadata: Bait digging areas aerial imagery 2019/2020
Abstract:
The data has been collected under a contract run under the Wales non-licensable activities project. Bait digging and collection of living resources was identified as an activity which is causing damage to the Marine Protection Area (MPA) network in Wales. The data obtained from this contract provides NRW with evidence which will help inform discussions around future management of this activity. The data contains 15 aerial images (.tiff format) of 12 separate priority intertidal sites in Wales which were suspected of having bait digging occurring. The images were captured between October 2019 and March 2020 with a drone. They display visual evidence of bait digging that can be picked up by sediment disturbance and patterning which indicates digging activity. From these aerial images, a GIS layer (Bait Digging Areas 20192020 NRWDS124806) was created through interpretation of the visible evidence of bait digging from the aerial images.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Aerial images (.tiff) were collected using drones, mainly a Sensefly eBee and some additional capture with a DJI Phantom 4 Pro Plus) at approx. 120m, 1 pixel equating to approx. 3cm on the ground. Flight plans were designed using eMotion3 software and uploaded to the drone. The images captured were processed using Pix4D Mapper. |
