Abstract:
Survey to assess the impacts of three bait collection methods on Welsh MPAs - bait digging (Sites : Angle Bay, Four Mile Bridge, Penmon - Beaumaris), boulder turning (Penmon-Beaumaris, West of Great Orme), crab shelters (Deganwy, Bangor Pier). Samples taken from control and impact sites. Infaunal cores, sediment cores, benthic megafauna (i.e. razor clam, cockle) quadrat, worm cast count, seagrass coverage, boulder epifauna, boulder turning classification. This metadata covers the results of the bait digging monitoring at Angle Bay, Four Mile Bridge and Penmon-Beaumaris.

The objective of the survey was to determine any possible impacts of bait digging on muddy gravels and seagrass habitats. Survey methods included a comparative sampling strategy between areas that were exposed to intensive bait digging and areas that experience less (or no) bait digging activities. Monitoring was carried out at Angle Bay between the 15th and 17th of September 2023. Monitoring was carried out at Four Mile Bridge and Penmon-Beaumaris sites between the 2nd and 7th of June 2024. |
