Metadata: Sublittoral nematode and copepod assemblages from 12 sites around the UK coast from May 1997 to November 1999
Abstract:
Data consists of presense data of nematode worms and copepods in the form of count data. Sampling was conducted from May 1997 to June 1999 in 12 sampling locations, 6 inshore (Burbo Bight, Swansea Bay, Off Plymouth, Off Thames, Tees inshore, Tyne inshore) and 6 offshore (Dundrum Bay, Cardigan Bay, Celtic Deep, Lyme Bay, Off Humber and Off Tyne) around the coast of the UK. Data including sediment granulometry and trace metal concentrations are also available.
Data holder:
Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science, Lowestoft Laboratory (CEFAS)

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | Sublittoral nematode and copepod assemblages from 12 sites around the UK coast from May 1997 to November 1999 |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | CEFAS298f6cc9-19f2-4c6d-b4e5-60adbd377fd3 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | CEFAS20349 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1997-05-01 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1999-11-30 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | All locations were sampled between February and May except the station 'off Thames' in 1999, which was sampled in November. With the exception of Cardigan Bay, the sampling depths of the offshore stations were significantly deeper than at inshore locations. Sediment samples were taken with the Bowers and Connelly Multicorer, which is designed to take four undisturbed sediment samples (23.76 cm2 surface area each) simultaneously. The corer was deployed four times at each site. From each deployment, one whole sediment core was retained for meiofauna analysis and the top 5 cm of another core from the same deployment was retained for particle size and chemical analyses (Schratzberger et al., 2000). The depth of the sediment core obtained at each sampling site depends on the sediment compaction and the amount of weight loaded on the Multicorer. The depths of sediment cores collected at the inshore sites ranged from 3 to 13 cm, those sampled at the intermediate and offshore locations ranged from 4 to 20 cm (Schratzberger et al., 2000). |
