Metadata: Predictor variables and sedimentation rate samples used to predict sedimentation rates within the Baltic Sea from 1992 - 2017
Abstract:
Input data used to predict sedimentation rate for the Baltic Sea. Observation data includes: Sedimentation rate data derived from isotope 137Cs tracers and pseudo-samples of zero sedimentation rate randomly placed in areas of rocky habitat. Sixteen predictor variables were considered for use in the sedimentation rate model. These were: Bathymetric Position Index (at three neighbourhood sizes); the Standard Deviation of bathymetry (at three neighbourhood sizes); Distance from Rivers (three layers representing different river catchment sizes); Substrate class (developed at a 1:1,000,000 scale for the Baltic Sea, classified to Folk5 level); satellite derived estimate for Suspended Particulate Matter in the water column (a winter and summer layer); Orbital Velocity at the seabed (a winter and summer layer); and Current Speed (a winter and summer layer). To access and download the data contact `data.manager@cefas.co.uk`_ For additional details regarding the predictor data variables see the publication associated with this data: `https://doi.org/10.1016/j.csr.2020.104325`_ .. _`data.manager@cefas.co.uk`: mailto:data.manager@cefas.co.uk%20 .. _`https://doi.org/10.1016/j.csr.2020.104325`: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.csr.2020.104325

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Sedimentation rate observations were downloaded from the EMODnet-Geology data portal (`https://emodnet-geology.eu`_). The 100 pseudo-samples, which were assigned a sedimentation rate of zero, were randomly positioned within the area classified as rock in the 1:250,000 scale EMODnet Geology Substrate map. Predictor variables were downloaded from various sources. Derivatives of bathymetry were generated from the EMODnet bathymetry layer ( `https://emodnet.ec.europa.eu/en/bathymetry`_). Current speed and orbital velocity of waves were calculated by Cefas staff. Suspended inorganic particulate matter layers were derived from data downloaded from Copernicus online portal (`http://marine.copernicus.eu/`_). The size of river catchments were calculated from the Copernicus EU-Digital Elevation Model v1.1 (`https://www.copernicus.eu/en/use-cases/eu-dem`_). From this the distance from river mouths were then calculated by Cefas staff. .. _`https://emodnet-geology.eu`: https://emodnet-geology.eu .. _`https://emodnet.ec.europa.eu/en/bathymetry`: https://emodnet.ec.europa.eu/en/bathymetry .. _`http://marine.copernicus.eu/`: http://marine.copernicus.eu/ .. _`https://www.copernicus.eu/en/use-cases/eu-dem`: https://www.copernicus.eu/en/use-cases/eu-dem |
