Metadata: Hydrological sections for England, Scotland and Wales with associated river catchment 2023, Water Framework Directive (WFD) waterbody and regional information (WGS84).
Abstract:
This dataset consists of hydrologically defined sections (polygons) for the whole of Great Britain including river channels and coastal areas up to the mean high water line for England and Wales. Each section has the following attributes: - The devolved administration(s) the section is within - The area of the section that is contained within the devolved administration(s) - The regional administration (from the Ordnance Survey Boundary Line) that the majority of the section is within - The river catchment that the section is within. These are the existing Fish Health Inspectorate (FHI) catchment boundaries, new England and Wales catchments to ensure complete coverage of England and Wales, and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) catchments. - The waterbody river basin district ID and waterbody ID for England and Wales from the Water Framework Directive. There are 2 versions of this dataset; this one in a geographical coordinate reference system (CRS) (EPSG 4236 - WGS84) and the dataset in a projected CRS BNG (EPSG 27700) see `Hydrological sections for England, Scotland and Wales with associated river catchment 2023, Water Framework Directive (WFD) waterbody and regional information British National Grid (BNG)`_ .. _`hydrological sections for england, scotland and wales with associated river catchment 2023, water framework directive (wfd) waterbody and regional information british national grid (bng)`: https://data.cefas.co.uk/view/21750

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | Hydrological sections for England, Scotland and Wales with associated river catchment 2023, Water Framework Directive (WFD) waterbody and regional information (WGS84). |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | CEFAS60484fb2-67b1-458b-be92-852a64e07a3a |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | CEFAS21968 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2023-11-03 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2023-11-03 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The parent dataset was the hydrological sections from the Integrated Hydrological Units (IHU) of the UK dataset generated by the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH) in 2014. New sections were generated to ensure complete coverage across England and Wales by: - Generation of new sections for river channels - Generation of new sections where the Water Framework Directive Waterbodies can not covered by the sections layer The sections layer was then spatially joined to: - The Ordnance Survey Boundary Line dataset to obtain the devolved administration and regional administrative area - The FHI catchments layer to determine if the section overlapped the catchment - The SEPA catchments to determine if the section overlapped the catchment All catchment areas were manually checked and where necessary new catchments were identified. |
