Metadata: Copernicus Chlorophyll for the UK shelf 1998 to 2014
Abstract:
This is a chlorophyll product developed from CMEMS product OCEANCOLOURATLCHLL3REPOBSERVATIONS009_067: DATASET-OC-ATL-CHL-MULTI-CCI-L3-CHL1KMDAILY-REP-V02. There are two gridded products, yearly growing season (March-October) mean chlorophyll concentrations, and yearly growing season 90th percentile chlorophyll concentrations. The data covers the period 1998 - 2014 and is at 1km resolution. Means and 90th percentiles are also provided for a set of regions used for eutrophication assessments: MSFD regions, regional seas, WFD coastal areas, and Ecohydrodynamic regions. Files: grseasonchlmean9814v2.nc and grseasonchl90pc9814v3.nc contain gridded growing season means and 90th percentiles for the years 1998 to 2014, at approximately 1km resolution. grseasonchlmean9814v25km.nc and grseasonchl90pc9814v35km.nc contain gridded growing season means and 90th percentiles for the years 1998 to 2014, at approximately 5km resolution. chlMSFDgrseasonstats19982014.csv contains growing season chlorophyll means and 90th percentiles for each of the MSFD regions: Greater North Sea and Celtic Seas for the years 1990 - 2014. chlRegionalSeasgrseasonstats19982014.csv contains growing season chlorophyll means and 90th percentiles for each of the regional seas (1-8, also known as charting progress 2 regions) for the years 1990 - 2014. chlWFDcoastalgrseasonstats19902014v1b.csv contains growing season chlorophyll means and 90th percentiles for each of the WFD coastal assessment regions, for the years 1990 - 2014. chlEcohydrogrseasonstats19982014.csv contains growing season chlorophyll means and 90th percentiles for Ecohydrodynamic regions (cropped to the MSFD region extent). Corresponding shapefiles for all of these regions are also available ( MSFDregions.zip, Regionalseas.zip, WFD_coastal.zip, Ecohydrodynamicregionscropped.zip)

| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | CEFAS9931ace6-76fb-49ae-a12e-e9e29048841a |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | CEFAS19628 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1998-03-01 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2014-10-31 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | This product was generated using E.U. Copernicus Marine Service Information. Daily values from remote sensing data (CMEMS product 009_067 DATASET-OC-ATL-CHL-MULTI-CCI-L3-CHL1KMDAILY-REP-V02) were used to obtain growing season 90th percentile values and means of chlorophyll concentrations to plot time series from 1998 to 2014. Processing was done in python (part A): 1. Load netcdfs 2. Subset to the area of interest (15°W to 4°E, 48°N to 64°N). 3. Export netcdf of subsetted data layer (for part B) 4. Calculate the 90th percentile over March-October for each year 5. Export netcdf of growing season 90th percentiles ( chlgrseason90pc19982014.nc) 6. Calculate the mean over March-October for each year 7. Export netcdf of growing season mean (chlgrseasonmean19982014.nc) And R (part B) 1. Load netcdfs (from step 3 above) 2. Reshape data arrays to long data table format 3. Spatial overlay with regions 4. Calculate 90th percentile and mean over regions and growing season months for each year 5. Export csvs Additionally, to facilitate fast display in browsers the gridded netcdfs were resampled in R using bilinear interpolation to approximately 5km resolution. |
