Metadata: Nematode assemblages in the southwestern North Sea, May 2000 - May 2001
Abstract:
Nematode species abundance data is presented as counts per sample. Samples were collected in May 2000 and May 2001 from 19 stations in the southwestern North Sea. Data including the total nematode biomass per sample, total harpacticoid copepod counts per sample, sediment granulometry and trace metal concentrations is also available.

All stations corresponded with those of the 1986 North Sea Benthos Survey and their re-sampling in 2000/01 (Rees et al., 2002). At each station, three replicate sediment samples were collected from within a 100 m range ring (using SEXTANTTM software and DGPS position fixing) by means of a 0.1 m2 Day Grab. From each Day Grab, two sub-samples, one for particle size and organic carbon content analysis and one for the study of meiofauna, were collected with a perspex corer (3 cm diameter, 7.1 cm2 surface area) to a depth of 5 cm. The remainder of the sediment was retained for analysis of macrobenthic infauna. Only two valid meiofauna replicates could be retrieved from station 4, 14 and 15. |
