| Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 11303 |
| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 1903 - Ongoing Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom Research Vessel time-series data |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 2d58c3521b6ed7f0b73b4b69f96af043 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | MBA_RV_Time-series |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1903-02-05 |
| Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | 1 |
| Spatial resolution unit | This describes the unit of spatial resolution which for distance must be metres. | urn:ogc:def:uom:EPSG::9001 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | annually |
| Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | Multidisciplinary, time series data collected by from the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom research vessel, Sepia. |
| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The inshore haul has been undertaken using seven research vessels over the time series, each using comparable gear i.e. an ~15m headline small otter trawl with a small mesh cod-end or a cod end cover of mesh size 5mm. Gear descriptions for the time period 2004 - present are comprehensive. Gear specifications from historical data are less well described. There is high confidence in any dataset available for public download within this data series. There is high confidence in vertebrate species identification throughout the time series in the majority of species. Since 2004 data is subject to quality checking of 10% of digitised data against paper records. Since 2018, taxonomic identification has been validated through the NMBAQC scheme. If there is any question of confidence of taxonomic identification of a species then a more general taxonomic level is used to describe these specimens (typically genus). There are less records of quality control procedures and gear specifications for historic data. These data are available through request to MBASepia@mba.ac.uk where specialist advice on data confidence and methodology can be provided in addition to the dataset. Invertebrate abundance data is available through request to MBASepia@mba.ac.uk. There is high confidence in species identification of some species (e.g. cephalopods). Species recorded and confidence in identification within this dataset can be discussed via a data request. |
