| Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | This survey was conducted by the Field Studies Council Oil Pollution Research Unit for the Nature Conservancy Council during April, May and July 1986. The project aimed to review the available information and to conduct field work. The report contains site descriptions and locations as well as species descriptions, lists and abundances. |
| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | This report is to the Nature Conservancy Council from the Field Studies Council Oil Pollution Research Unit. The report incorporates both a review of literature and field studies. The field studies took place within the Plymouth Sound area during April, May and July 1986. The study used a variety of methods in order to study the wide range of habitat within the study area. Site visits were conducted of rocky and sedimentary shores and species abundances noted. Additionally, on sedimentary shores, sediment samples were taken and sieved by 'puddling' before being stored. In addition aerial photographs were taken of the shorelines. Subtidal sites were surveyed with the use of divers whom described the habitats and recorded the abundance of conspicuous species. Subtidal sediments were gathered in two separate ways - with the use of a suction sampler and dredging. The results include an in-depth description of the sites surveyed and the species sited at each (including abundances). These results are compared with previous studies and conclusions regarding the fauna and flora diversity etc. are made. |
