| Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | establish the extent and distribution of the intertidal soft sediment biotopes within the Tweed Estuary according to the MNCR Biotope Classification. |
| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The sampling methodology followed the guidelines given in the MNCR, with all survey staff having had previous experience in the relevant procedures for biotope mapping. The extent of the intertidal soft sediment biotopes were be mapped using DGPS. At each distinct habitat, the substratum and dominant/characteristic species were identified according to MNCR methodology, using the standard MNCR intertidal biotope recording forms, together with site position (centre and/or extent depending on size) using portable DGPS with data loggers. Species abundance was estimated using the SACFOR scale. Transects were placed from high to low water at regular intervals, with core samples taken within the distinct biotopes. Photographs were taken of the area, habitats and characteristic species fouind at each survey site. Marine recorder survey number: MRNE01340000004A |
