Metadata: 1996 Helford Voluntary Marine Conservation Area Group (HVMCAG) Helford Estuary Hexacoralline Anthozoan Survey
Abstract:
The Helford Voluntary Marine Conservation Area was designated in 1987 and since then a series of surveys have been carried out to examine the fauna and flora present. Intertidal surveys were conducted at 5 sites within the Helford Estuary complex using ten 1 metre sq quadrats to record average abundance of hexacoralline anthozoan species. In this study which looked at the hexacoralline anthozoans (sea anemones and corals) no less than twenty species were found to occur withing the HVMCA, many in considerable numbers. Two were of particular interest being rated as Nationally Scarce, Isozoanthus sulcatus (Ginger tiny) and Aiptasia mutabilis (Trumpet anemone). Digitised into MEDIN guideline format through 2015 Natural England contract (Survey number MM_0136).
