Metadata: 2023 University of Essex UK Juvenile Seabass Survey
Abstract:
Juvenile bass surveys undertaken as part of a FISP funded research project to obtain samples of 0-group sea bass from estuarine nurseries between Aug-Nov. Samples were to be retained to compile an archival tissue bank of cohort matched juvenile sea bass, specifically white muscle tissue, otoliths, and eye lenses, housed at the University of Essex. The primary function of this sampling was to provide samples for DNA extraction to assess the genomic connectivity of sea bass across estuarine nurseries of the southern UK. Samples were collected using beach seine netting at 31 sites across 17 estuarine systems where juvenile bass are found. Secondly, this data is useful in assessing the distribution and abundance of bass within and between these estuarine systems. Here we present the raw counts of juvenile bass caught from the upper and lower reaches (where possible) of estuarine nurseries, as well as the morphometrics recorded for bass which were retained for genomic analysis.

| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 55fbe4c9-bbc9-4398-9a69-8e037758cab8 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | DASSHDT00000538 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2023-08-14 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2023-11-01 |
| Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Species ID was performed by two trained individuals with a wealth of species specific experience. ID was confirmed by secondary scientist. Surveys carried out in 2023, but data analysis and write-up completed in 2024. This data has been reviewed against the DASSH Quality Assessment Criteria (http://doi.org/10.17031/64ccec5c7ba72) and been categorised as high quality. |
