Metadata: 2003-2004 Lundy European Marine Site Sublittoral Monitoring
Abstract:
This Aquatic Survey and Monitoring Limited (ASML) project was commissioned to assess the interest feature - Reefs (subtidal), within the cSAC, by surveying several sub-features of Lundy's reefs, identified as ecologically important components. These components, outlined in the regulation 33 package, include; kelp forest communities, subtidal bedrock and stable boulder communities and Eunicella (Pink Sea Fan) characterised reef, all to be surveyed by 'drop-down video' in order to establish a baseline, from which in the future, an assessment of the target; 'No decrease in the distribution, extent and range of biotopes from a baseline' will be made. Some biotopes and other structural aspects of these same components were also to be surveyed by quantitative diving techniques, to establish a baseline against which an assessment of the target, 'Species composition: no significant deviation from baseline' will be made.

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2003-2004 Lundy European Marine Site Sublittoral Monitoring |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 7eadf985c507423c8e0bed09bc8abc6c |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | NATENG000012 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2003-06-01 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2004-06-30 |
| Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

Data collection was as follows: By drop-down video work carried out from the survey vessel Jessica Hettie. Video records were successfully made at 171 sites within the 6 video transects. Nines sites were studied by divers carrying scientific surveys using transects and video / photography. All of the original data were stored in the following formats: Excel spreadsheets; Marine Recorder; MapInfo GIS; Original raw data sheets. Other end products: Animal voucher specimens â?? these are lodged with the Marine Invertebrate section of the National Museum of Scotland; Algal specimens â?? these are lodged with the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh; 35 mm transparencies â?? English Nature holds a CD. C.M. Howson has the original transparencies which are available for loan; Hand-held video tapes â?? Drop-down video-tapes â?? Mini DV digital (some drops only) and VHS |
