Metadata: 1764-1969 Scottish Atrina pectinata (Pinna fragilis) records
Abstract:
Records taken from a 1985 paper summarising historic records of Atrina Pectinata (Pinna fragilis) in Scotland. All locations have been estimated from a map included in the paper. Various units of measurement were used in the past and the distinction was not always made between nautical and statute miles. Here all measurements have been converted to metric and miles have been assumed to be nautical.

| Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 1952 |
| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 1764-1969 Scottish Atrina pectinata (Pinna fragilis) records |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 859991916585d36123ba3539306369cb |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | MRMLN0010000012E |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1764-01-01 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2008-12-12 |
| Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | 500 |
| Spatial resolution unit | This describes the unit of spatial resolution which for distance must be metres. | http://standards.iso.org/ittf/PubliclyAvailableStandards/ISO_19139_Schemas/resources/uom/gmxUom.xml#m |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | continual |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | This study collates published records of Atrina pectinata in Scotland up to 1985. The original studies were collected in varying ways, usually by grab sampling or by fishermen. 1764 The fan mussel, Pinna fragilis Pennant, in Scotland A paper summarising previous records of Atrina (Pinna) fragilis in Scotland. All locations have been estimated from a map included in the paper. Where original papers have been accessed it is indicated in the sample metadata. Taken from Previous records... Previous Scottish records of Pinna fragilis are widely dispersed so, to obtain a general picture of present knowledge of its distribution, these, together with the present records, are summarised below. Localities are indicated as precisely as possible by numbers on the map. Several old records have been published repeatedly, here the original formal publication is indicated and subsidiary accounts are only included if they contribute materially to the original. Various units of measurement were used in the past and the distinction was not always made between nautical and statute miles. Here all measurements have been converted to metric and miles have been assumed to be nautical. This survey was collated by MarLIN as part of a data collation contract for species on the provisional list of nationally important marine features (Lieberknecht et al. 2004).
