Metadata: 2013, Sussex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (IFCA), Kingmere MCZ, underwater video footage
Abstract:
Interreg is an initiative that aims to stimulate cooperation between regions in the European Union. PANACHE will build much closer co-operation between English and French government agencies, scientific institutions, private enterprises and voluntary organisations in MPA management, monitoring and public awareness and engagement. The proposal involves five technical work packages that are closely linked and complementary. In September 2013, Sussex IFCA undertook a collaborative video survey with cross-channel MPA partners, IFREMER (French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea) and Plymouth Marine Institute under work package 2. Over 26 hours of underwater video footage was collected and four different camera systems were trialed within Kingmere MCZ. The aim of the surveys was to share best practice with partners and compare different drop down video gear configurations and their relative utility for MPA monitoring. Utilising one of the districts proposed first tranche MCZ sites provided the additional benefit of increasing the baseline data held by the Authority on habitat locations and associated species in the area, to help inform future management prescriptions. Sussex IFCA holds the georeferenced video footage that was collected by their equipment. Footage collected by partners' equipment is held by them.
