Metadata: 2005 Total Exploration and Production UK Ltd Rig site survey UKCS block 53/3c proposed location 53/3c Winterton
Abstract:
The environmental survey was required to provide baseline data relating to the physio-chemical and macrofaunal benthic environment. The environmental survey comprised ROV mounted camera operations for the groundtruthing of sample locations and grab sampling for physio-chemical and macrofaunal analysis. In total, 8 stations were investigated.

| Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. |
| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Results of the environmental survey and utilises the particle size, organic carbon, heavy metal, hydrocarbon and macrofaunal data from the environmental survey in conjunction with the multibeam swathe bathymetry and sidescan sonar data from the geophysical survey. Platform Type: 31 Research Vessel Ship Name: Fugro Mercator. The 0.1m2 Day grab was cleaned prior to use using a solvent; dichloromethane (DCM). The Day grab was cleaned using DCM at every station prior to obtaining the physico-chemical sample. A 250m length of 8mm grease free wire rope was used to deploy and recover the grab. On recovery to the deck, the inspection hatches on the grab were opened and the sample was judged for acceptability through applying a number of criteria. The sample was considered unacceptable in the following instances (and was classified as a no-sample); i. Evidence of surface sediment washout caused through the grab jaws not closing properly (due to coarse material i.e. stones, shells etc). ii. Inspection hatches open or not closed properly, allowing potential sediment washout. iii. Sediment sample taken on an angle i.e. where the grab has not struck the seabed true, or where the seabed was not flat. iv. Disruption of the sample through striking the side of the vessel. v. The sample represents less than half of the grab’s capacity. vi. Sample is more than the accepted range from the target location (this may vary depending on the reason for the location of the station i.e. to investigate a general area or a localised feature). vii. The presence of a Hag Fish, Myxine glutinosa and/or mucous coagulants. viii. The sample is unacceptable to the Client Representative for any other reason. This data has been reviewed against the DASSH Quality Assessment Criteria (http://doi.org/10.17031/64ccec5c7ba72) and been categorised as high quality |
