Metadata: UK Marine Gazetteer of Coastline Features
Abstract:
A GIS dataset consisting of lines representing manmade and natural features around the UK coastline from the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO). There are 69 features in total, for example, "Bempton Cliffs", "Valla Kames", "Craig Heugh" and "Chesil Beach". These data are included in the merged dataset 'MEDIN Gazetteer of Marine Points of Interest'.

| Other details | ||
| Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 3373 |
| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | UK Marine Gazetteer of Coastline Features |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | e2a9309c06bddcb7ff15863b40798bc9 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | medin0004 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2013-02-18 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2023-07-25 |
| Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |
| Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. |
| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | This dataset is a modified version of one provided by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) created from Electonic Navigational Charts and was used as an input into the 'MEDIN Gazetteer of Marine Points of Interest'. Line features have been captured at three scales MTS (small scale: 1: 150,000 and smaller in offshore and oceanic waters), MTM (medium scale: 1: 150,000 to 1: 30,000 in coastal waters and estuaries) and MTL (large scale: 1: 30,000 and greater, available in most harbour areas). The following processing was undertaken on the source data received from the UKHO to create this dataset; manmade features such as jetties, wharves and landings were removed, where the same feature was present in more than one of the MTS, MTM and MTL datasets then the feature in the smaller scale dataset was removed, duplicates were removed where there were several copies of the same feature within the same layer (duplicates being defined as items with the same name within 100m of each other). The recommended zoom level to view the features in GIS is 1:10,000. |
