Metadata: Sea Lice Data Shuna Sound Region
Abstract:
Six sites around the Sound of Shuna were selected as locations for sampling of pelagic stages of sea lice (nauplii and copepodids) for a 2021 field campaign carried out by SAMS under the Salmon Parasite In Linnhe, Lorn, and Shuna (SPILLS) project. The objectives of the field and laboratory analyses were to: 1.Test out multiple field sampling methods for capturing sea lice nauplii and copepodid larvaeand undertake a field sampling campaign. 2.Establish a process for subsampling, processing, and visual identification of sea lice larvae from the field sampling campaign. 3.Quantify sea lice larvae from a field sampling campaign designed and informed from sea lice larvae dispersal modelling.

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | Sea Lice Data Shuna Sound Region |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | Marine_Scotland_FishDAC_12441 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | Marine_Scotland_FishDAC_12441 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The .csv file contains four sheets: Plankton.Metadata provides descriptions of column names for the Plankton.Data sheet, which contains information on the day, location and numbers of nauplii, copepodid and pre adult sea lice sampled. Please note: Failure to capture sea lice larvae does not equate to their absence, and care must be taken to avoid conclusions of no sea lice larvae present at the place and time sampled. Temp&Salinity.Metadata provides descriptions of column names for the Temp&Salinity.Data, , which contains summary information on the monthly temperature and salinity at the sample locations presented in figures 7 and 8 in Reinardy et al. (2023). See Reinardy, H. Last, K., Brunner L., Twigg, G., McLeod, E., Ofori, A., Stollberg, I., Reed S., Gillibrand PA (2023) Final report on sampling and analyses of sea lice larvae in the Sound of Shuna (I), and sampling of sea lice on wild fish in the Sound of Shuna (II) for details of data collection, methods used and quality control processes implemented. |
