Metadata: 2011, Titan, Lynn and Inner Dowsing, Suspended Sediment Concentration Inter-Comparison Study
Abstract:
Titan Environmental Surveys were commissioned by Centrica Renewable Energy Ltd to collect current and suspended particulate matter from four sites around the Lynn and Inner Dowsing Wind Farms over the course of three deployments during the construction of the two wind farms, namely pre, during and post construction. The report in this series describes an inter-comparison of the turbidity and water sample data collected, and attempts to assess if there is any evidence for a change in the suspended sediment transport regime of the area as a result of the construction of the two offshore wind farms.

| Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | In undertaking such an analysis it is necessary to attempt to filter out the large scale variations in the suspended sediment field which result from these local transport processes before attempting to assess if there has been any effect to the sediment regime from the works undertaken. The fact that the deployments were undertaken at different times of the year and under different wave climate conditions will likely result in there being significant differences in the suspended load of the water column from deployment to deployment. Differences resulting from variations in tidal forcing are however likely to be of a second order as the 30 day deployments cover both Spring and Neap tidal cycles. However, in the absence of information on the discharges of sediment and water from the two large estuarine inputs, as variations in the washload – the fraction of the suspended sediment load which remains permanently in suspension, can only be inferred on the basis of the recorded data. This is important since these discharges could have a significant impact on the residual transport pattern of the region and hence the advective component of the suspended sediment field. |
