Metadata: 2001, Titan Environmental Surveys Ltd, Barrow Offshore Wind Farm, Geophysical Survey
Abstract:
Titan Environmental Surveys Limited was commissioned by Warwick Energy Ltd to undertake a geophysical survey for the purpose of assessing the seabed and the shallow sub-seabed conditions prior to the installation of an offshore wind farm approximately 10km South of Barrow-In-Furness in Cumbria. The principal aims of the surveys was to provide comprehensive information over a proposed wind farm area and consequent cable route corridor to the shore for use in the design, installation and sunsequent maintenance of the wind farm. The detailed objectives were to investigate aspects of the bathymetry, geomorphology, lithology, seabed features and the general environment within the survey areas.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Horizontal Control Positioning onboard the survey vessel was achieved using GPS techniques with the aim of achieving primary and secondary positioning to a horizontal accuracy of better than 3m. The General Lighthouse Authority (GLA) beacon system was used as the primary system receiving corrections from Point Lynas. A dual frequency GPS receiver operating in autonomous mode was used as the secondary system. Vertical Control All levels have been reduced to Chart Datum (approximately Lowest Astronomical Tide) at Fleetwood. The tide gauge was installed by Titan Environmental Surveys Ltd. and calibrated by a series of tide watches. Details of which are provided in Appendix D. As the location of the Wind Farm site was 12Km from the tide gauge at Fleetwood, a tidal curve for the wind farm location was generated using co-tidal corrections derived from Admiralty Chart No. 5058. A mean high water interval of 11 hours 0 minutes and a mean spring range of 8.00m were deduced for Fleetwood. A mean high water interval of 10 hours 53 minutes and a mean spring range of 7.65m were deduced for the wind farm location. From these values, a time difference of –7 minutes and a height ratio of 0.95625 were deduced and applied to the observed tide data at Fleetwood to produce a tidal curve for the wind farm location. A tide curve for Heysham was generated by applying a time difference of +13 minutes to the observed tides at Fleetwood using corrections as detailed in the Admiralty Tide Tables NP201-02, volume 1, part 2. No height difference was applied. The relationship between Chart Datum relative to Ordnance Datum Newlyn (O.D.N) at Fleetwood is –4.90m. |
