Metadata: 2018, Ocean Ecology, Race Bank, Post-Construction year 1 Benthic Report
Abstract:
Completed in late 2017, Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm (ROW01) (The Project) is comprised of 91 x 6.3 Mega-Watt (MW) Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs), built on 7 m diameter monopile foundations. The project supports two Offshore Sub Stations (OSSs), inter-array cables (IACs) and two subsea export cables with an export cable link between the two offshore substations. ROW01 is located, at its closest point, 27 km offshore of the north Norfolk coast. The marine export cables make landfall approximately 1 km to the east of the mouth of the River Nene, within The Wash, Lincolnshire. The ROW01 array lies within the Inner Dowsing, Race Bank and North Ridge Site of Community Importance (IDRBNR SCI), and the export cable route passes through The Wash and North Norfolk Coast Special Area of Conservation (WandNNC SAC). Both the IDRBNR SCI and WandNNC SAC are, amongst other features, designated for the presence of Annex I biogenic reefs and sandbanks which are slightly covered by seawater at all times (subtidal sandbanks).

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The post-construction benthic sampling required across the ROW01 involved sampling within three impacts zones (primary, secondary and reference), in areas adjacent to the scour protection areas and along the extent of the ECR as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2 below. The surveys involved collection of mini-Hamon grab samples at a total of 113 sampling stations to assess Generator asset related impacts and 34 stations to assess for Offshore Transmission related impacts. The stations were selected as a repeat of the pre-construction baseline benthic survey (Marine Space Ltd 2017), agreed previously with the MMO. A total of 12 DDV transects were also sampled to observe potential changes and recovery as a result of remedial cable burial works and cable protection, including joint pits, dredge areas, and dredge spoil disposal and temporary dredge stockpile areas. The Generator asset sampling comprised: - Twenty Five sample stations within the Primary Impact Zone (PIZ); - Twenty Five sample stations within the Secondary Impact Zone (SIZ); - Fifteen sample stations within Reference areas; - Forty Eight sample stations within Scour Protection areas; and - Four DDV transects within local levelling dredge disposal areas. The Offshore Transmission asset sampling comprised: - Thirty Four samples stations along the ECR. - Eight DDV transects within joint pit temporary stockpile areas, joint pit areas and local levelling dredge spoil disposal areas (for both cables (C1 and C2)). |
