Abstract:
Gardline Geosurvey Limited carried out an export cable route survey for DONG Energy Wind Power AS extending from the Hornsea Project One Wind Turbine Area to landfall at the Lincolnshire coast. The object was to gather information strictly along newly designed export cable routes where the existing data is considered insufficient, using single beam and multi-beam echo sounders, pinger and sparker.

This metadata file has been created by The Crown Estate, based upon information provided by DONG Energy, for the purpose of uploading the data to the Marine Data Exchange. The vessel's reference point (X=0, Y=0, Z=0) was the CoG (Centre of Gravity). All equipment offsets, towpoints and laybacks are included in Appendix A of the Acquisition Report. Five independent GNSS systems were operated for the duration of the project. Primary navigation for this project was the C&C Technologies CNav DGNSS system which uses a network of reference stations in order to calculate a single differential correction for the vessel’s location. The DGNSS systems performed to a high standard, and hence positioning accuracy achieved was in accordance with specifications for the systems. Absolute accuracy would, therefore, be in the region of ±1m with relative accuracy being greater. A heave compensated, dual frequency echo sounder was used to determine water depths within the survey area. A Simrad EM3002D multi-beam echo sounder is permanently installed on M.V. Vigilant; it was used to provide swathe bathymetry data. Acquired data were processed using Caris HIPS and SIPS (version 8.1) software. All data were reduced to LAT using tidal elevations that were derived using post-processed GNSS observations. For SBP data processing, the data were loaded into Gardline Geosurvey’s GeoFusion software, along with the bathymetry data from the survey area. The data were then shifted on a ping-by-ping basis to match the bathymetry grid, using a water velocity of 1505m/s. This reduces the data to the LAT datum. |
