This document was prepared by Eclipse Energy Company Ltd in conjunction with Rudall Blanchard Associates. The report was submitted in support of the proposed Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm development and provides an extensive assessment of the potential impacts of the proposed site on the surrounding area. Included in the report are outlines of potential ecological, navigational and socio-economic impacts.

This concept involves integrating the development of power generation from small, undeveloped gas reserves with that from wind turbines in offshore generating stations. The power generated from both wind and gas is then cabled back to shore to feed into the national electricity grid network. Two such gas accumulations have been discovered in UK Oil and Gas concession Blocks 113/28a and 113/29a and b, and have been identified as suitable for a pilot project to demonstrate the feasibility of this type of co-development project (the Ormonde Project, or Project). Both Blocks are located in the eastern Irish Sea off the Cumbrian coastline about 10 kilometres west of Walney Island, Barrow-in-Furness and have been named Ormonde South and Ormonde North respectively. Gas powered generation will take place on a Gas Turbine Platform (GTP) sited over the gas fields (with the power generation facility, including the GTP, being termed the Ormonde GT). |
