Metadata: 2011, Gardline Environmental, Zone 3 Dogger Bank Tranche A and Associated Export Cable Route, Benthic Survey
Abstract:
Benthic survey of the Dogger Bank Tranche A and associated export route. Survey completed by Gardline Environmental on behalf of Forewind Ltd. The object of the survey was to investigate pre-selected sites for the presence or absence of Annex I habitats protected under the European Habitats Directive using appropriate guidance notes and high resolution under water video and stills photography (Fresh Water Lens System), to delineate the extent of any Annex I habitat found, also ground truthing of selected sites using a sediment sampler for the determination of Herring Spawning Ground (HSG) potential based on guidelines provided by Cefas (2001). Survey also undertakes characterisation of seabed sediments and Archaeological assessment. In order to accomplish above objectives three methods were used which are: 1) Fresh Water Lens Camera Procedure 2) Day Grab Procedure 3) Mini Hamon Grab Procedure. Results of these methods were provided in field sampling logs (.XLS format) by Gardline Geosurvey Limited. Logs were provided for seabed imagery (deck log + Surveyor log), Day Grab samples (deck log + Surveyor log) and Mini Hamon Grab Samples (deck log + Surveyor log).

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | This data was collected for the Forewind Ltd, DOGGER BANK TRANCHE A NEARSHORE CORRIDOR BENTHIC SURVEY by Gardline Geosurvey Ltd. Environmental seabed images were taken by means of a Konsberg 14-208 digital stills camera system with a dedicated strobe and video lamps, mounted within a stainless steel frame. A USBL positioning beacon was attached to the freshwater lens camera frame. Photographs were downloaded onto a PC via a USB download cable and copied onto CD-Rom. All CDs, DVDs and videos were labelled with the relevant job details, write-protected and stored. Chemistry samples and benthic samples were recovered using an in-house constructed, modified, stainless-steel 0.1m2 Day grab and Mini Hamon Grab respectively. The grab carried extra weights to induce better penetration on impact and an extended bucket lip to reduce sediment washout. Storm feet and elastic straps were used to reduce the likelihood of the instrument pre-triggering in the water column during deployment. Grab samples deemed acceptable for analyses were photographed and described prior to sub-sampling. At the end of the survey all of the retained samples were delivered to Gardline’s Great Yarmouth office for sorting, checking and either storage or re-delivery to their respective analytical subcontractors. Results of these methods were provided in field sampling logs (.XLS format) by Gardline Geosurvey Limited. Logs were provided for both seabed imagery (deck log + Surveyor log) and seabed samples (deck log + Surveyor log). |
