Metadata: 2016, Moray First Marine, Zone 1 - Moray Firth, Geophysical Survey of Seabed Conditions
Abstract:
Moray First Marine was contracted by MORL to carry out a mini Geophysical Survey in the Northern Moray Firth to verify seabed conditions surrounding the Offshore Met Mast and to confirm that conditions are unchanged from previous operations in this area. The site investigation was carried out during the 7-8th June, 2016 providing sounding data for a 400m area surrounding the mast. The survey noted any significant boulder/outcrop or scour areas. Confirmation of as-built data for caisson and foundations and ROV confirmation of any features detected was also conducted in the survey. This dataset contains reports and data files (of varying formats) including videos.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | MV Coral Wind was vessel carrying out the survey, equipped with a moon-pool and retractable pole holding single-beam and sidescan transducer array as well as a GPS antenna, resulting in zero X-Y offset between the two. The provisional line plan was used as a guide for data acquisition. All survey planning was carried out in Hypack and sounding data was also recorded using this system. A dual-frequency single-beam echosounder survey of the seabed area surrounding the mast was planned in order to establish general depths and seabed profiles in these areas. Sidescan sonar data was collected in order to assess variations in seabed compositions and to check for isolated obstructions and possible areas of scour. MV Coral Wind was also equipped with a ROV system allowing any objects of interest to be assessed visually. The ROV was used to verify the echosounder data with respect to the margins of the rock placement area. |
