Metadata: 2010-2011, Wessex Archaeology, Zone 9 Celtic Array, Archaeological Assessments
Abstract:
Wessex Archaeology was appointed by CERI (now Celtic Array) to assist in the archaeological assessment of Zone 9 Irish Sea. As part of this assessment Wessex Archaeology was asked to carry out an archaeological assessment of geophysical data arising from investigations of four test areas designated as MM1, MM2, MM3 and MM4 for the positioning of Met Masts within the Irish Sea Zone development area. The geophysical data consisted of sidescan sonar and sub-bottom profiler (sparker) acquired by Marin Mätteknik AB (MMT) from February to April 2010. This assessment focused on the potential for remnant land surfaces that may contain archaeological material relating to times of lower sea level; and the potential for the remains of maritime craft or aircraft of cultural heritage importance within the area that may be impacted upon by the proposed scheme.. | Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Four geophysical surveys were carried out around the proposed Met Mast locations, MM1, MM2, MM3 and MM4 . Each survey comprised of a 1km by 1km grid centred originally on the proposed location (though the positions of MM2 and MM4 were subsequently altered and the area around the new locations also surveyed). Lines were run every 100m in the main line direction and 150m in the crossline direction using all the acquisition systems. An additional magnetometer grid of 100m by 100m centred on each potential mast location was also undertaken, with a line spacing of 10m in both the main line and crossline directions. Data sources were derived from a UKHO wreck and National Monuments Record search, the geophysical data assessed consisted of sidescan sonar, subbottom profiler, magnetometer and multibeam bathymetry data acquired by MMT- Marin Mätteknik AB between the 15th February and 2nd April 2010 |
