Metadata: 2005, Qinetiq, Gwynt y Mor, An assessment of the impact of the proposed Gwynt y Mor offshore wind farm on marine radio navigation and communication systems
Abstract:
This project reviews the impacts on marine radio communications, radar and navigation systems as a result of the construction of the Gwynt y Mor Offshore wind farm. This is an assessment of the impact on these not on the navigational safety. The project includes VHF radio communications, VHF direction finding, GPS, AIS, mobile phone networks and Racon positioning system.

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2005, Qinetiq, Gwynt y Mor, An assessment of the impact of the proposed Gwynt y Mor offshore wind farm on marine radio navigation and communication systems |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 223bb475-75ba-482a-9e52-25ac7ad4aa69 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | TCE-588 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2005-05-26 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2005-10-18 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | unknown |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | To assess the wind farm three illustrative layouts have been considered using two different class of turbine (3MW class and 5 MW class). Where parameters are variable worst case assumptions have been made to find the bounds of the impacts expected from the wind farm. Previous work has been carried out on the North Hoyle offshore wind farm development. This has involved theoretical studies and then measurements on the completed wind farm. The results from these studies have been summarised in this report and where possible, these results have been used to inform the calculations carried out for the Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm. A summary of the assessment findings for all the systems bar ship radar is contained in the following table. The systems considered include a variety of radio communication and navigation systems, a number of nearby fixed site marine radar systems, microwave links operated by BHP Billiton, helicopter radar and television broadcast signalsv |
