Metadata: 2010, Eagle Lyon Pope, Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm, Drifting Ships - Risk Analysis
Abstract:
NPower Renewables has been granted an agreement for lease of the Triton Knoll Wind Farm in the Great Wash Strategic Environmental Assessment Area. As part of their EIA, NPower Renewables instructed Eagle Lyon Pope (ELP) to analyse the drifting behavior of vessels in the vicinity of Triton Knoll. The frequency of a vessel drifting and crossing the boundary of the planned wind farm was determined using OCTAVIA, ELP"s proprietary software which enables the drift behaviour of vessels such as tankers, containers, roros and bulkers to be modelled. The analyses were based on the annual vessel movements on four main shipping routes in the vicinity of the wind farm area. The study was extended to investigate the probability of a fishing vessel or a dredging vessel, that has lost engine power when working in the immediate vicinity of Triton Knoll, drifting into the wind farm area. The study was undertaken for four fishing vessel and four dredging vessel start locations, each of which was defined by RWE NPower.
