Metadata: 2012, Partrac Ltd., Brims Tidal Array, Bottom-Mounted Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) Metocean Survey
Abstract:
Partrac Ltd was contracted by SSE Renewables to undertake collection of metocean data (tidal current profiles, waves, turbulence, water level and suspended sediments) at their Cantick Head development site. Six ballasted bed-frames, each comprising a 300 kHz RDI (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) plus turbidity logger, were deployed at all six sites, namely 15, 18, 19, 21, 22 and 23. Sites 15, 19, 22 and 23 were deployed between the 30th and 31st May.

| Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | Partrac Ltd was contracted by SSE Renewables to undertake collection of metocean data (tidal current profiles, waves, turbulence, water level and suspended sediments) at their Cantick Head development site. | Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | All three sites returned the minimum requirement of data (minimum of 30 days) (Table 1). The data from all sites is generally of very high quality. Table 3 provides the percentage of data passing each of the current QC parameter tolerances (tolerances are included in the Appendix). Reason for current data fails: Bad data recorded for currents during the deployment period are for the following reasons: - Flow became suddenly rapid or highly turbulent (spikes). - Low percentage good values. Percentage good is the ratio of good pings per total pings for each ensemble. Causes of low percent good values include low correlation, large error velocity and ‘fish detection’. The percent good test ensures that the minimum number of samples and minimum theoretical standard deviation in the data are met. Reason for wave data fails: Since wave data were not recorded separately, the same conditions and reasons applicable to current data fails are observed here. |
