Metadata: 2005, Entec, Lynn and Inner Dowsing, Baseline Underwater Noise Survey
Abstract:
Entec UK Ltd was commissioned by AMEC and Renewable Energy Systems on behalf of Centrica Renewable Energy to investigate the background noise environment across two of the Centrica Renewable Energy offshore windfarm sites, Lynn and Inner Dowsing. It is anticipated this review of the background noise environment will provide a baseline for comparison of future operational data, as part of the developer commitment to environmental monitoring of the windfarm throughout the construction and post-construction period. Marine renewable energy developments have the potential to generate considerable levels of underwater noise, both in the short-term during construction, and in the long-term operational phase of projects. This must be considered in terms of the impact of any changes in the underwater noise environment upon marine life, in particular marine mammals and commercial fisheries.

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2005, Entec, Lynn and Inner Dowsing, Baseline Underwater Noise Survey |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | Baseline Underwater Noise Survey |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 3bd7eda8-678f-4370-9a39-b5db8f57bf99 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | TCE-1083 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2005-08-01 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2005-08-31 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The survey was conducted using the small workboat MV Genesis (see Figure 3.1), working out of Grimsby. The twin-hulled vessel is capable of high cruising speeds and is both stable and manoeuvrable. Inside the wheelhouse is an area allocated for survey and computer equipment, complete with uninterruptible mains power supply. The catamaran is particularly suitable for this type of work due to the high position it holds in the water, minimising the effects of wave-slap on the boat hull. The survey plan followed the methodology detailed in the COWRIE commissioned report ‘Assessment of sub-sea acoustic noise and vibration from offshore wind turbines and its impact on marine wildlife; initial measurements of underwater noise during construction of offshore windfarms, and comparison with background noise’. |
