| Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 34638 |
| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2010, Food and Environment Research Agency (FERA), Argyll Array, Bird Detection Radar Migration Monitoring |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | Bird Detection Radar Migration Monitoring |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 42a6a069-edaf-42b5-8d4a-1b8fc7bc04eb |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | CES-24 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2010-03-31 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2010-10-15 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The Fera Bird Detection Radar System detects bird movements and other radar signal returns across an 11km offshore radius for 24 hours per day as required. The BDR utilises two JRC marine radars; the S-band surveillance antenna detects birds in the horizontal plane, and the X-band is mounted in the vertical plane. The S-band and X-band radar antenna heads were positioned at a height of approximately 4 m above the ground (approximately 8m asl). The X-band altitudinal radar scans above the unit through a narrow beam in an arc to 1.4 km (0.75 nautical miles) whilst the Sband surveillance radar covers an area with a radius of 11.1 km (6 nautical miles). These ranges are based upon the known radar performance characteristics and the radar cross-sections of individual birds (Eastwood, 1967; Rinehart, 1996). Radar returns are generated by potential targets, permanent landscape features (“clutter”) and by randomly generated returns (“noise”). Returns are filtered, using specially developed algorithms, which differentiate between potential bird targets and other returns, such as noise or clutter and are then recorded to a Microsoft Access database. This process runs continuously. For every new 24 hr period the database software creates a new database. |
