Metadata: 2012-2013, Osiris Projects, Zone 7 - Navitus Bay, Geophysical Survey
Abstract:
Osiris Projects were commissioned in July 2012 and February 2013 by Navitus Bay Development Ltd to carry out a detailed hydrographic and geophysical cable route development survey for the Navitus Bay windfarm development, offshore Dorset. The main objectives of the surveys were: Measure seabed topography and morphology and identify the nature of the seabed sediments. Undertake shallow geophysical surveys using sub-bottom profiler to identity sub-seabed geology, to provide data for cable burial assessment. Identify the location, extent and nature of any impediments to the installation of the export cables such as wrecks, sea floor debris, rock outcrops, etc. All of the objectives were planned to provide additional survey information to the previously undertaken works at the site, ahead of the project Environmental Impact Assessment submission. These objectives were achieved by utilising multibeam echo sounder, side scan sonar, marine magnetometer and surface-towed boomer, & sub-bottom profiler, run simultaneously on all survey lines.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | MV Freja and MV Pulsar The GeoAcoustics GeoSwath, high-frequency (250 kHz) interferometric swathe bathymetry system was used to collect the data. - for further details see Osiris Projects operations report C13005-Vol1-OpsRep-rev01, section 2.5. MV Chartwell A RESON SeaBat 7101 high resolution multi-beam echo sounder system was used to collect a high density bathymetry data set within the survey area - for further details see Osiris Projects operations report C13005-Vol1-OpsRep-rev01, section 2.5. Data acquired was collected and processed through the QPS QINSy software, where all peripheral data (MRU, sound velocity and tidal observations) are incorporated into the data set. |
