Metadata: 2012, Xodus, Inner Sound, Encounter Rate for Atlantic Salmon for the MeyGen Tidal Energy Project
Abstract:
This document provides an initial assessment of the potential impacts of collision with turbines for migrating Atlantic salmon associated with the MeyGen Project and the turbines deployed during Phase 1 of the Project. The study investigates the encounter rate for 20 and 86 turbines.
Data holder:
Crown Estate Scotland

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2012, Xodus, Inner Sound, Encounter Rate for Atlantic Salmon for the MeyGen Tidal Energy Project |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 4e592500-0213-46b3-84b9-0d32190fd3f0 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | A-30596-S00-TECH-013 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2012-03-23 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2012-05-01 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Due to a lack of data in relation to salmon ecology a number of assumptions have been made in undertaking this study. In most instances a precautionary assumption has been made in order to provide a reasonable estimate of the probability of an encounter taking place. The overriding assumptions made in undertaking this exercise were: ? Salmon smolts from the east coast of Scotland migrate along the east coast and then through the Pentland Firth. A small proportion migrate through the Orkney Islands and the Fair Isle Channel. The major migratory routes taken by smolts is shown in Figure 2.3a; ? Adults returning to spawn in east coast rivers also travel through the Pentland Firth and a small proportion migrate through the Orkney Islands and the Fair Isle Channel to reach their home rivers. The major migration routes taken by returning adults is shown in Figure 2.3b; and ? There is some movement by adults east and west along the north coast (see Figure 2.2) and so some adult salmon returning to the north coast may also pass through the Pentland Firth. A number of other assumptions are made in relation to individual parameters and these are provided in more detail in relevant sections |
