Metadata: 2015-2016, Gardline, Triton Knoll, Metocean Survey
Abstract:
Gardline Environmental was commissioned by Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm Ltd to undertake a metocean survey at the Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm site. Three sites were selected at which oceanographic instrumentation were deployed to acquire wave spectra, current profiles and water levels. Initially, two waveriders and a seabed mounted AWAC and databuoy, were deployed at the three locations across the site. In addition, marker buoys, two per site, were deployed alongside the instrumented moorings. In the weeks following deployment, both waveriders were struck by 3 rd party vessels and set adrift. Telemetry from the data buoy also ceased during the same time period. Further investigation on site also revealed that none of the marker buoys remained on site. In light of the impact of 3 rd party interference with the moorings Triton Knoll and Gardline agreed a different approach to acquisition whereby two of the three sites would contain sub-surface AWACs, without surface signatures, with one site continuing with a deployed waverider. While a full data record was acquired at the Met Buoy 1 site, the instrumentation at Met Buoy 3 again suffered 3 rd party interference which resulted in the frame being turned upside-down mid-way through the deployment. While the data acquired is deemed to be of good quality, the quantity of data collected during the first deployments between October 2015 and January 2016 makes it difficult to determine whether the data are representative of the site during this time period. The second deployment period between January 2016 and April 2016 saw improved deployment durations containing good quality data. Sites Met Buoy 1 and Met Buoy 3 contained data that was deemed representative of the site.
