Metadata: 2010-2011, Cathie Associates, Blyth Demonstration Site, Preliminary Geotechnical Investigation Report
Abstract:
Cathie Associates were commissioned by NaREC to undertake the premliminary geotechnical report prior to construction. The objectives of the preliminary geotechnical investigation were to: investigate the distribution, thickness and geotechnical properties of the superficial Holocene and Quaternary deposits; investigate the distribution, thickness and geotechnical properties of the solid geology. The surveys took place in November 2010, and the laboratory analysis occured in December 2010 to January 2011.

| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2010-11-01 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2010-11-11 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | asNeeded |
| Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. |
| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | NaREC propose to develop and operate an offshore wind demonstration site to the east of Blyth, Northumberland. It is understood that this will involve the construction of a monitoring platform to reflect conditions typical of Round 3 UK Windfarm Projects. Up to twenty 'pods' shall be leased to companies wishing to demonstrate or trial new offshore wind technologies and these shall be linked to the grid via subsea transmission cables. The objectives if the preliminary geotechnical investigation were to: investigate the distribution, thickness and geotechnical properties of the superficial Holocene and Quaternary deposits; investigate the distribution, thickness and geotechnical properties of the solid geology; achieve excellent core recovery (>80%) within the solid geology strata; works to be completed in a safe, efficient and timely manner (i.e. no accidents, harm to personnel and damage to the environment). It was hoped to undertake a number of boreholes within the array areas identified by NaREC, however due to adverse weather conditions only one borehole with associated in-situ testing and CPT was possible. The borehole completed at the site extended to a depth of 51.65m below seabed level, while the CPT terminated at a depth of 2.2m below seabed level. |
