Metadata: 2018, Natural Power, Blyth Demonstration Site, Benthic Monitoring - Array 2
Abstract:
Annex 2 of the Marine Licence (L/2013/00303) specified that a post-construction monitoring programme including benthic ecology surveys must be undertaken, which must also include a survey for Annex 1 habitats. Post-construction surveys are required to assess any changes in the diversity and distribution of benthic ecology populations in and around the developed site and to provide monitoring of ecological effects of the development. In October 2017, the Post-Construction Benthic and Fish Survey Monitoring Plan (Document Number: BOD-101-04-NPC-MWL-00006-A-02) was agreed with the MMO. This document outlined the benthic and fish survey monitoring plan for post-construction surveys as per the Marine Licence. All surveys conducted were undertaken in line with the post-construction Benthic and Fish Survey Monitoring Plan. This purpose of the report in this series is to provide BODL with a comparison of the post-construction data with the EIA baseline and pre-construction characterisation of the benthic ecology present in and around the Blyth Offshore Demonstrator Project. The document presents the findings of the benthic grab, epibenthic beam trawl and drop- down video (DDV) surveys, which were undertaken by Natural Power Consultants Ltd. An intertidal survey was also undertaken and reported on separately, this report is provided in Annex A.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Prior to any statistical analysis, all data were collated in Excel spreadsheets and made suitable for statistical analysis through the assignation of factors which included project phase and location as treatment groups. The names of species recorded during EIA characterisation were checked for any taxonomical changes on the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMs) database and amended. In order to undertake full and comprehensive statistical analysis between phases, species recorded as present were assigned an abundance value of one and species identified as juveniles remained as such for the analysis. Sampling stations surveyed in triplicate were treated as individual samples and were not aggregated. All data processing and statistical analysis was undertaken using Microsoft Excel and the statistical package Plymouth Routines In Marine Ecological Research (PRIMER) v6 (Clarke and Warwick, 2001). |
