Abstract:
Partrac Ltd was contracted by SSE Renewables to undertake collection of metocean data (tidal currents, waves, turbulence, turbidity) at Cantick Head, Island of South Walls (Hoy, Orkneys), Scotland. Two instrumented, ballasted bed-frames each comprising a 300 kHz T-RDI acoustic Doppler current profile (ADCP) and an Aquatec-Seapoint logging turbidity sensor, were deployed at two sites (Site 6 and Site 8) onto the seabed over the period 15th November, 2010, to 4th January, 2011.

Thresholds are set in order to flag bad data, for example, data that fall outside of broad error specifications or against a narrower range of error specifications or error due to strong reflections from the water surface that overcome the sidelobe suppression of the ADCP transducer. However, during pre-processing of ADCP data, some data may be questionable. Such suspected data, called spikes, are not removed; rather, they are detected and possibly replaced.
