Metadata: 2004-2005, EMU Ltd., London Array Offshore Wind Farm, Directional Wave Data Analysis for the London Array Development Site
Abstract:
In 2004 Emu Limited was commissioned to undertake a project to monitor the coastal processes of the outer Thames Estuary for the London Array, Round 2 Wind Farm Development. An initial 3 month survey, designed to support the data requirements for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was undertaken between February and May, 2004. This included the monitoring of waves, tidal heights, currents and suspended solids at three locations within the development area. Monitoring wave action at an additional site outside of the development area was also undertaken. Seabed mounted acoustic profilers were deployed at each of the three locations within the development area (Long Sands, Kentish Knock and Knock Deep). These instruments were all capable of recording current profiles, tidal heights, directional wave data and acoustic back scatter (ABS) profiles. A directional wave-rider buoy was deployed at the location outside the development area (Drill Stone Buoy). The buoy was equipped with 3 accelerometers to measure wave action directly. This initial study was subsequently extended for an additional 9 month period between June 2004 and March 2005 (deployments 4 and 5). Emu Limited was later commissioned to undertake a detailed 2 dimensional wave energy analysis in order to define better the wave coming directions and wave heights within the development site.
