Metadata: 2014, Seagreen, Zone 2 - Firth of Forth, Zone Appraisal and Planning - Update
Abstract:
Seagreen Wind Energy Ltd (Seagreen) is seeking to develop offshore wind farms delivering a total capacity of 3.5 Gigawatts (GW) within the Firth of Forth Round 3 Zone (the Zone) through three development phases. Consent applications for the Phase 1 projects, comprising two offshore wind farms totalling up to 1.05GW capacity, are currently in determination. While the boundary of the Zone is fixed, as defined by The Crown Estate (TCE), Phase and Project boundaries remain flexible within the Zone. The Zone Appraisal and Planning (ZAP) process is one of the tools used by Seagreen to collate data on the potential environmental and engineering constraints within the Zone and define Phase and Project boundaries in a rational and strategic manner. The ZAP reports issued by Seagreen are intended to inform stakeholders about this process. In summary, Seagreen intends to use the ZAP process to: -Present an overview of the baseline data and information relevant to the Zone and its wind farm projects; -Define the most suitable areas for development in the Zone; -Document key decisions; -Consider potential cumulative and in-combination effects at a Zone level; and -Engage with key consultees early in the development process about Zone planning and site selection.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Seagreen has set out a plan to develop the Zone in three phases. The 2011 ZAP Update 1 report made recommendations regarding the wind farm site boundaries for Phase 1 and these boundaries are now fixed. This consisted of identifying areas of environmental constraint within the Zone and selecting areas of lesser constraint whilst ensuring that an economically viable scheme could be constructed within the identified areas. Following the same reasoning, indicative boundaries for development of Phases 2 and 3 were suggested. This second ZAP Update provides analysis and interpretation of new and existing data sets covering the Zone and, drawing on the experience of the Phase 1 development, identifies the areas of least constraint for further refinement of the Phase 2 and Phase 3 development areas. The entire remainder of the Zone outwith the Phase 1 sites is considered as the Phase 2 and 2 search area (P2/P3 area). The shapefile datasets have been used to create the drawings included in the ZAP report. |
