Metadata: 2022, EGS International Ltd., The Crown Estate Data Collection, Geophysical Survey of Proposed Dredging Areas in the Thames Estuary
Abstract:
This survey work involved bathymetric and geophysical data acquisition along individual pre-planned lines over proposed dredging areas identified by The Crown Estate in the Thames Estuary region. The objectives of the survey are to acquire high-quality bathymetric and geophysical data aimed at producing an assessment of sand and gravel resources. The survey scope includes Multi-Beam Echo sounder (MBES), Side-Scan Sonar (SSS), Sub-Bottom Profiler (SBP), and Single-Channel Ultra-high resolution seismic (S-UHRS) surveys.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The alongside mobilisation began onboard the EGS Ventus on the 23th February 2022 in Shoreham Port, Sussex, UK, with the vessel slipping ropes on the 27th February to carry out the offshore calibrations and verifications programme just off Shoreham. These were successfully completed on the 1st of March with the vessel then transiting directly to the first target area (English Channel) where survey operations commenced later the same day. The Ventus then progressed through the target areas moving north, competing the planned work in the English Channel and Thames Estuary (except for a section of line TE_L9) before transiting to the East Coast area. While working in the East Coast area, the weather conditions forced the vessel to briefly seek shelter in Great Yarmouth, where a partial crew change took place on the 8th March. Survey operations were resumed later the same day and all the planned lines were completed on the 13th March, with the vessel transiting north again to commence work in the Humber area. Survey operations in the Humber area were completed on the 16th March, with the vessel starting the return transit late in the day. During the transit south, two additional lines requested by the Client, one in the East Coast area and one in the Thames Estuary area were completed together with the remaining section of line TE_L9 The Ventus arrived back in Shoreham late on the 18th March, after having successfully recovered while on its way to port the beacons used for the initial calibration at the start of the project. The demobilisation was immediately started and completed the next day (19 th March), with all the survey personnel leaving site at noon. Full details of survey operations are provided in the Operational Report included here as Appendix A รข?? Operational Report. |
