Metadata: 2014, NIRAS and CMACS, Walney, Year 3 Environmental Monitoring
Abstract:
This series contains a collection of surveys undertaken as part of the year 3 post-construction monitoring programme for the Walney offshore wind farm development. Surveys completed include an ornithological boat-based survey and benthic grabs.

| Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 19170 |
| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2014, NIRAS and CMACS, Walney, Year 3 Environmental Monitoring |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | Year 3 Environmental Monitoring |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 5fa8c5b5-70e0-40a0-9e34-53d3d2feb40e |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | TCE-2177 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2014-01-01 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2014-12-31 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |
| Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | This series contains a collection of surveys undertaken as part of the year 3 post-construction monitoring programme for the Walney offshore wind farm development. Surveys completed include an ornithological boat-based survey and benthic grabs. |
| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Grab and camera survey techniques replicated those of the first and second post construction surveys of 2012 and 2013 respectively (CMACS, 2014a & 2014b) which matched the approach adopted in the collection of baseline data (CMACS, 2009; CMACS, 2011.) and reflected the methodology approved by the Licence Authority and statutory consultees in 2009, with the exception of changes to sediment sampling protocol requested by the License Authority which are discussed below. A survey strategy involving multiple sampling methods was used to obtain information on the benthic habitats and taxa present in the Survey Area (Figure 3). Grab sampling was the principal means of sampling which was backed up, as in previous surveys, with a clearwater camera system which provided information on areas of hard substratum on the cable route where historically it has not been possible to obtain useable grab samples. The clearwater camera system also provided information on deep-burrowing organisms in the offshore mud which are not well sampled with a grab. Information on epifauna on the cable route was derived from beam trawl sampling in previous years, but no beam trawls were carried out in 2014 since these were not required as per the EMP. All grab/camera survey stations sampled in the pre-construction survey (2009 & 2010) and the first and second post-construction monitoring surveys (2012 & 2013) were revisited in this survey. In 2012, Grab/Camera Station 49 in the eastern corner of Walney I OWF was moved approximately 37m to the east compared to the original 2009 location, owing to the original location being occupied by a turbine; it now lies approximately 36m from turbine A01. Due to the uniform nature of the sediments in this area, this is not considered likely to have made any material difference to the results in terms of either sediments or fauna. Other than this change all grab/camera stations have remained constant during the survey series. |
