Metadata: 2009, EMU Ltd., Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm, Greater Wash Hydrodynamic Measurement Campaign
Abstract:
Emu Limited was commissioned by RWE Npower Renewables Limited to monitor the physical oceanographic processes in the vicinity of the Greater Wash, for the proposed Triton Knoll offshore wind farm development. This included the monitoring of tidal heights, currents and waves at three locations within the development area. A Nortek AWAC (Acoustic Wave And Current) profiler was deployed at each location. The instruments were configured to record the tide height and profiles of the acoustic backscatter intensity, current speed and current direction throughout the water column every 10 minutes. In addition directional wave data were acquired every 30 minutes. The equipment was serviced after approximately 7 weeks and redeployed for a further 8 weeks. The second deployment was extended in order to return the maximum period of data possible as the initial data set from PSA SW showed corruption after the first 21 days and stopped recording data after 40 days. The duration of the data sets allowed the derivation of robust statistics and tidal harmonics to assist in the understanding of the site conditions.
