Metadata: 2010 - 2013, Natural Power, Blyth Demonstration Site, Wind Resource Assessment
Abstract:
Natural Power has been commissioned by National Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC) to carry out continuous monitoring of the wind resource at the development location. Offshore data was not available from the NaREC project area for use in analysis. As a result data from an onshore LIDAR unit (ZephIR 300) together with long term reference data (from a meteorological reference station and a meso-scale model) has been used to provide an estimation of the long term ambient wind climate at various locations around the NaREC project area.

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2010 - 2013, Natural Power, Blyth Demonstration Site, Wind Resource Assessment |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | Wind Resource Assessment |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 6bc8cf23-6bd0-42e5-9916-4b592a67722c |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | TCE-93 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2010-10-15 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2013-05-31 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |
| Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | Natural Power has been commissioned by National Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC) to carry out continuous monitoring of the wind resource at the development location. | Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Extreme wind speeds, long term mean annual wind speeds (LTMAWS) and turbulence intensities at each turbine location have been considered in this analysis. Turbine hub height wind speeds have been taken from the WRA. The extreme wind analysis carried out in this report uses annual extreme hourly mean wind speeds from the Boulmer reference station. Site turbulence is based on data obtained from a meso-scale climate model. The analysis presented is valid for turbine hub heights of 100 m above ordnance datum (AOD). This report presents these parameters in the context of the International Standard IEC 61400-1: Wind turbine systems, Part 1: Safety requirements, 2005 (IEC 61400-1, 2005). The IEC International Standard 61400-3: Design requirements for offshore wind turbines (IEC 61400-3, 2009) states that the wind conditions for offshore turbines should be assessed in the same manner as for onshore turbines, however, other external factors, such as the marine environmental conditions, should be considered in the design of offshore turbine components. |
