Metadata: 2008-2009, Gardline Environmental, Dudgeon, Metocean Survey
Abstract:
The Oceanography Department of Gardline Environmental Ltd. was contracted to collect detailed Metocean data within the Greater Wash Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) area off the north Norfolk coast. Nortek acoustic wave and current (AWAC) recorders collected wave bursts, current profiles and tidal sea level data at two locations within the SEA, as defined by Dudgeon Offshore Wind Limited (DOW).

| Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 18872 |
| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2008-2009, Gardline Environmental, Dudgeon, Metocean Survey |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | Metocean Survey |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 6bd6b3cd-e789-4120-907a-89cc0104a0e5 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | TCE-307 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2008-10-09 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2009-10-28 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | unknown |
| Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. |
| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | All instrument clocks were set to GMT (UTC) and all references to, or archives of, timed serial data remain in this time zone. Nortek’s AWAC acoustic Doppler combined current profiler and wave/tide measurement device incorporates an acoustic sea surface tracking beam (AST) which allows for deeper deployments than a pressure based wave/tide system. Pressure attenuation of wave action at higher frequencies is no longer an inherent distortion of raw data when using such seabed mounted instruments. A sensitive pressure sensor is included to allow cross-correlation of method or provide backup should the AST beam become obstructed (PUV method). The AWAC also provides current velocity and direction through a column (up to 30m depth) and can burst sample the orbital velocities to assess the directional wave parameters by the “maximum likelihood method” (MLM). These three independent measurement methods identified above (AST, PUV, MLM) provide a means of error checking so that the processed estimates are robust with quantifiable confidence limits. |
