Metadata: 2009, Aspect Land and Hydrographic Surveys, Brough Head Wave Farm, Site Investigation Survey
Abstract:
On the instructions of Aquamarine Power Ltd, bathymetric, geophysical, magnetic field and R.O.V. surveys were conducted at Marwick Bay off mainland Orkney between 22nd June and 27th June 2009. The programme of events was as follows: - Bathymetry Data Gathering (22nd June 09) - Bathymetry Processing and Product Preparation (23rd - 30th June 09) - Magnetometer Data Gathering (23rd - 24th June 09) - Sub Bottom Profiler Data Gathering (23rd - 24th June 09) - R.O.V. Transects (26th - 27th June 09) - Seabed Sampling (27th June 09) - Processing and Deliverable Preparation (23rd - 30th June 09) - Presentation of Deliverables (1st July 09) - Report Preparation (23rd June - 27th July 09) - Presentation of Final Survey Report (30th July 09)

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | An Edgetech 3100P (SB-216S Body) Sub Bottom Profiler was used for this survey. This sensor operates at either 2-10kHz, 2-12kHz or 2-16kHz frequency bands. The system was operated in low and medium frequency modes (2-10kHz and 2-12kHz) during the survey to have the best chance of seabed penetration in this very shallow water environment. The magnetometer survey was conducted using a Geometrics G882 Caesium vapour magnetometer that measures total field strength to a precision of 0.02nT. The ROV survey was carried out in conjunction with Roving Eye Enterprises of Orphir, Orkney. Navigation for the ROV was managed by way of a TRIMBLE SPS461 differential GPS and heading system that was used to supply positioning and heading for the vessel. The ROV was then positioned from the vessel with an Applied Acoustics EasyTrac USBL system. Both of these systems were interfaced with Hypack software, which was used to log positions of both the vessel and ROV during operations and to process and provide plots of the data on completion. Tracklines for the ROV have been provided on drawing A4438MarwickROV TRACKLINES.dwg. |
