Abstract:
On behalf of Mainstream Renewable Power Limited , Fugro GeoConsulting Limited has carried out a geotechnical site investigation at Neart Na Gaoithe offshore wind farm site and export cable corridor in Blocks 25/24, 25/25, 25/29 and 33/4, of the UK sector, North Sea. The survey presents the results of the Cone Penetration Tests (CPTs) carried out at 32 locations in the site and 40 locations in the cable corridor. Further laboratory testing were done on the data gathered from 9 Boreholes and 40 Vibrocore locations in the site and cable corridor respectively. The geotechnical logs created provides soil information to assist in the development of the proposed main turbine (array) area and the subsea transmission cable route.

Fugro GeoConsulting Limited has carried out a geotechnical site investigation at the offshore wind farm site and export cable corridor. The work was performed from the MV Fugro Commander from 31 July 2012 to 2 October 2012.The water depth is approximately 44.7 m to 53.7m at the main array locations as measured by echo sounder and corrected to Lowest Astronomical Tide . The geotechnical investigation were carried out in three phases. Phase 1 comprised of 32 Cone Penetration Tests (CPTs) carried out using Fugro’s block-drive SEACALF® CPT system. Phase 2 was the boring campaign which consisted of 9 Boreholes done using Fugro’s push sampling and Geobor-S systems. Phase 3 comprised of 40 Seabed CPTs and 40 Vibrocores along export cable route. The laboratory tests were performed according to the procedures presented in BS 1377 (1990). The geotechnical logs were compiled based upon laboratory test results and in situ test data. The logs provided the following information: i. Soil layering, including classifications of undrained shear strength in fine-grained cohesive soils and particle size distribution in coarse soils; ii. Measured undrained shear strength values; iii. Measured moisture content and soil density data; iv. Sample depths. |
