Metadata: 2001, EMU, Lynn and Inner Dowsing, Benthic Biological Survey
Abstract:
EMU was commisioned by Offshore Wind Power and Amec Wind in 2001 to carry out a geophysical work at two proposed wind farm sites, Lynn and Inner Dowsing. It involved the collection of benthic grab samples and the use of a range of sampling techniques for assessment. Samples were collected for analysis of benthic invertebrates and particle size and the echo-plus system was also employed to assess seabed type. Key conclusions highlight the technical feasibility of the survey approach, the necessity of methodological adjustments following logistical challenges, and the value of combining multiple survey techniques to comprehensively characterize seabed community structure, with further recommendations to address equipment limitations in future studies.

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2001, EMU, Lynn and Inner Dowsing, Benthic Biological Survey |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | Biological Survey |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 7a1d327f-cf92-4a8d-96f8-44f630913f7e |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | TCE-1088 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2001-10-15 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2001-10-21 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The methodology involved collecting benthic and particle size samples at 33 locations using Hamon grabs and a grid system approved by CEFAS, following protocols outlined by Brown et al. (2001), with each site yielding double-bucket samples for benthic, particle size, and chemical analysis. Sampling was executed with an average positioning accuracy of ±20m across both featureless and distinct seabed areas, and Emu Ltd. was tasked with analyzing selected replicates for species composition, biomass, and particle size. Plans also included trawl surveys along pre-selected transects, though initial attempts faced logistical and equipment challenges. The findings are intended to be integrated with acoustic survey results for biotope mapping. |
